What other types of radios are there, other than CB or Ham?
2 Minute Tuesday: There are many different types of radios and radio services. We have already covered CB/Ham radios in a previous episode. Now we are talking three more types, FRS, MURS, and GMRS.

FRS (Family Radio Service) is probably one of the most common radios out there. you will see them in most of your big box stores. They are simple and easy to use. They come with an attached antenna and preset channels. One of the weakest types of radios however they work alright in a line of sight situation.
MURS (Multi-Use Radio Service) is most common with communication between electronic devices such as security systems. However, you can set some radios to use these frequencies so you can talk on them. These frequencies allow you to set the radio for more watts and they are better in hilly areas.
GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) was mainly used before cell phones and is used primarily in urban areas. They have the most power and allow the use of repeaters. Most of the repeaters are located in urban areas so they are not often used out on the trails.
